American has impressed in debut campaignManager that bought him set to be moved onForward will have to prove himself againGettyWHAT HAPPENED?
The United States international has done plenty to prove his worth in 2023-24, with a personal-best return of 13 goals posted during his debut campaign at San Siro. Pulisic is, however, in danger of seeing Stefano Pioli – the manager that snapped him up from Chelsea – being relieved of his coaching duties this summer.

Lalas has already said of that situation: “When there is a changing of the guard, there is often a change of mentality and you have people that come in with their preconceived notions and their baggage and the direction they want to go. Christian Pulisic might be in a situation where he is in a place where thousands of players have been, where they are just not part of the plans going forward. The good part for Christian Pulisic is that I think there will be a lot of suitors out there, there will be plenty of people that will want him going forward. It would be ironic that arguably the best season he’s had results in him having to go elsewhere.”

The former USMNT defender has now reiterated that point on his podcast, saying: “In the general, evergreen reality of coaches that come in and have their own ideas. There could be somebody that comes in and says ‘I don’t like Christian Pulisic for what I’m about to do and while he may be good, this isn’t working’. I think those would be few and far between, but there is certainly the possibility of somebody coming in. If and when that person comes in, you will have to re-prove yourself to someone going forward. Christian Pulisic is a big boy and he’ll figure out how to do that. If he has to go some place else, he’s fine.”
WHAT NEXT FOR PULISIC?
Pulisic is tied to a contract in Milan through to 2027, which suggests that he will not be going anywhere any time soon. He will, however, have to prove himself to a new coach ahead of next season, while also fending off competition for his attacking berth from the likes of Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze.
